Instructions
Type in Cayuga words as best you can. The algorithm will attempt to find all the closest fits.
They will be ordered in how close a fit they are.
Click on a phrase to copy it to the clipboard.
Click on the symbol to switch to the English Look Up screen.
In the English Look Up screen, all Cayuga phrases that contain an English word in the definition are pulled.
You can prevent from getting hits on "broom" when you are searching for "room" by adding spaces. Example: search " room" instead of just "room".
FAQ About This Resource
Q: What is this resource?
A: This resource was created using by myself, Nathan Rowbottom, using my own resources and on my own time. I am an Upper Cayuga Ǫgwehǫ́:weh that grew up in Brantford. I made this app (and others) to help myself, my family and friends learn and maintain Gayogo̱hó:nǫˀ. If you are trying to learn the language, accept this as a free gift from me to you.
Q: Where did the phrases come from?
A: The bulk is from the old Java-based dictionary created by COOL (Cayuga Our Oral Legacy). I accessed it through the Internet Wayback Machine. These sentences do not have accents but I decided to include them. The rest are web-scraped from the excellent people at ohwejagehka.com/ or typed in by myself or other learners. If there is enough interest, then I might make it easier for others to submit sentences.
Q: I see typoes and errors, how can we fix them?
A: Email me to let me know and I will correct them when I can.
Q: What should I do if I see content that should not be shared?
A: Email me and share your concern.
The rule of
thumb that I am using is that if something is already published in the Cayuga Dictionary then I am
probably going to keep it up. If it is not, then I will take it down. If there is enough interest, I could provide a login service to allow access to sensitive words and concepts.
